Humanitarian supply chain practitioners are not concerned about competitive advantages and maximizing profit. Success is measured in reduced human suffering. These heroes are faced with highly variable demand, ever-changing supply chain networks, primitive infrastructure, and limited resources. Supply chain and logistics technology providers have a unique opportunity to create solutions that improve efficiency and agility for these unique supply chains. In this event, you will hear the challenges related to medical and food relief programs. Do you have technology ideas, solutions, or expertise to offer? Will you heed the call and join us?

Track 4: Protecting Profits Through Supply Chain Risk Mitigation

From the port explosion in China to the Hanjin bankruptcy to Indian factory collapses, we've all seen the devastating impact that supply chain disruption can inflict on organizations. While firms traditionally centered their supply chain risk mitigation priorities on areas of high risk probability, this approach doesn't minimize the financial losses associated with supply chain disruptions. The good news is that you can have end-to-end supply chain visibility that focuses on the profit contribution impact of every supply chain asset. In this presentation, you'll learn about financial performance visibility and how to prioritize supply chain risk mitigation activities based on potential financial impact.

PRESENTATION: The plug-and-play supply chain: beyond efficiency to growth

Years of growth, merger and acquisition activity, changing customer markets and globalization have taken their toll on supply chains, creating highly complex, extended supply chains. However, companies are realizing that operating with this complex web of one-off supply chains is unsustainable - high cost, full of waste, cumbersome and risky.

Enter the plug-and-play supply chain – a new business model driven by big data, powerful analytics, smart segmentation and operational standardization. The session will define the plug-and-play concept, explain how it works, and show how it goes way beyond just cutting supply chain costs – to drive sustainable growth.

Workshop Three: Driving Profitable Growth Through Effective Segmentation Strategies

Companies are realizing that relying on a “One Size Fits All” supply chain strategy by operating channel (e.g. E-Commerce) simply does not work in today’s rapidly changing business environment. However, tailoring supply chain strategies using traditional grouping or segmentation criteria (revenue contributions, order quantities over time, etc.) are ineffective in addressing this problem. What is needed is accurate, precise and specific insights regarding profit contributions by customer, product and channel. Having this information can be the basis for developing “disruptive” supply chain strategies that can provide significant competitive advantage and dramatic financial performance improvements.

In this workshop we will:

  • Discuss the fundamentals required to gain specific and accurate profit performance information
  • Define how using these types of insights can be used to develop disruptive operating strategies
  • Review the importance of having this information on a recurring basis versus treating the need as a "special project"
